Coronavirus (COVID-19): Community Gatherings of 10 or More

Starting today at 5:00 pm March 17, 2020 as a result of Governor Evers’ Executive Order #72 and the Dept. of Health Services Emergency Order #5 there is a ban of gatherings of 10 or more people. This includes the operations of bars and restarants which will only be able to offer drive through service beginning at 5:00 pm.  Please see Emergency Order #5  here.

Although there are not yet cases of COVID-19 in La Crosse County as of March 17 at 4:00 PM,  Wisconsin has 72 cases and counting and is considered to have community level spread of COVID-19. This means that the infection has appeared in people with no known risk factors such as travel or known exposure to a positive case.

For this reason, Jen Rombalski, Director, La Crosse County Health Department, is recommending that residents stay home.  This is the best advice to prevent transmission of COVID-19 and limit its spread and impact on our community.

Until further notice, events of 10 or more are banned to protect members of the public that are at risk.  At any event with up to 10 people, guidance includes the following;  hand hygiene and social distancing (spacing of 6 feet between people) should be followed. This guidance shall be in effect for the duration of the public health emergency or until a subsequent order lifts this specific restriction.
